<span style="font-family: inherit;">In life, we make lots and lots of
mistakes. If we choose to learn from those mistakes, it becomes a lesson. Be it
in a relationship, education, career, or investment, all of us have made
mistakes in our life at one point or another. Mistakes are bound to happen as
we leave our comfort zone and try to experience the new world. We encounter
with several challenges as we voyage through this strange seas. Because of our
ignorance or bad judgment or influence of others, we might take a wrong step
when faced with new challenges. These wrong steps, basically, make us regret
our decision for some time or rest of our life depending on its severity. It is
at this crucial time that we don’t entirely succumb to regret or sadness or
depression. If we sink into this black hole, chances are that we will be
trapped in it for eternity. But if we don’t fall into it, and learn to swim
away from it, we will come out as a strong person with a new set of skills and
knowledge. I believe mistakes should be looked at from fresh light of
perspective. It shouldn’t be treated as a culprit, but as a good teacher who
always wants the best for their kids.</span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 115%;">
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="line-height: 150%;">We miss out on so many small things around us
when we are busy with our LIFE. I just realized this when I looked out from my
balcony this morning. </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="line-height: 150%;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="line-height: 150%;">I woke up at 6 and made my coffee and sat on a small
wooden chair at the balcony. I was just taking a deep breath and enjoying the
morning view with sip of hot strong coffee. The morning view is always amazing
from where I am sitting, but lately I have not been able to enjoy this moment
because of my “new work schedule.” I am working late nights and waking up quite
late in the mornings. I hardly get time to sit and take rest because I will
always find something to do, even in free time. But today was different! It was
Sunday and I woke up quite early. I had nothing to do, literally. I had done
all my chores the other day – laundry, cleaning, dishes, garbage, etc. So I had
Sunday free for myself. I can choose to do anything I wanted but I chose to
stay at home. Home is also one of my favorite hangout places.</span><span style="line-height: 150%;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="line-height: 150%;">So I am at balcony, sipping coffee from my
mug and enjoying the view. What I saw next totally surprised me. The owner of
the building, where I am currently living, has a small apple orchard behind the
building. What I failed to observe all this time was that the apple tree had
already bore fruits, and they were LOVELY. Seeing all those red fresh fruits
hanging on branches made me ask to myself: How the hell in the world I didn’t
notice this? Nobody would have missed such a sight. I bet all the tenants living
in the building would have already seen it. They would have seen it through
their windows if not their balcony. I was 100% sure that I was the last unlucky
person to see it now.</span><span style="line-height: 150%;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="line-height: 150%;">So, I was not able to grasp the idea how I
might have missed such a beautiful sight which is just below my balcony. I
interrogated myself repeatedly in my head HOW? HOW? HOW?</span><span style="line-height: 150%;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="line-height: 150%;">And after interrogating myself for a long
time I came to a conclusion. The conclusion was I was too busy with life and I
forgot to see or enjoy things around me.</span><span style="line-height: 150%;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="line-height: 150%;">This is just one example, but I know that I
have missed on so many things in my life – family, relatives, friends,
neighbors, colleagues, people, and so many other things.</span><span style="line-height: 150%;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="line-height: 150%;">My mom always said, “At the end of the day,
the time you spend with your family and friends will always account more than
anything in life.” So the lesson here is make time for your family, friends,
colleagues, relatives, etc., no matter how busy you are.</span><span style="line-height: 150%;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; line-height: 150%; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="line-height: 150%;">Call your mom, call your dad, call your
friends, say hi to a stranger, take time to go to parks, go to dinner, invite
your friends over, take a walk, go jogging, go picnic with friends, and make
some time for others in your life. Otherwise, you might also miss that
beautiful sight of apple tree.</span><span style="line-height: 150%;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 115%;">Hello,
readers! First of al</span><a href="https://www.blogger.com/null" name="_GoBack" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 115%;"></a><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 115%;">l, I would like to apologize for not
writing for so long. Although I was meaning to write a new post for a very long
time, I couldn’t because so much has happened in past four months in my life.
First, I got a new job in Thimphu – I am working for a corporate company now.
Second, I moved into a new apartment at Olakha. Third, I am learning to develop
android apps online. Fourth, I am planning on starting a business very soon
(currently working on business plans, capital, etc.). Fifth, I am assigned
overtime work at office where I work till 9 in the evening. So, as you can see,
I am juggling with lot of things. Most of my hours are spent on these five
major decisions I have taken. As a result, I had to make few changes in my
life, reluctantly.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; margin-left: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 12.0pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="line-height: 115%;">Now
I don’t get time to read books as much as I used to. In the past, I used to
read at least 2 books a month on average. Today, I read almost 1 book in two
months on average. By the way, I am going to read more books once I finish my
overtime work. And to save money on books I have also ordered kindle to read eBooks
(also save trees). </span><span style="line-height: 115%;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; margin-left: 0in; margin-right: 0in; margin-top: 12.0pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="line-height: 115%;">My
habit of jogging early in the morning has also completely stopped – probably
because I have stopped waking up early. I get so tired after my overtime work I
directly go to my bed for a long goodnight sleep. When I open my eyes it’s
already 7 in the morning. So no jogging, too late for jogging.</span><span style="line-height: 115%;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="line-height: 115%;">As
you all know, I am not a frequent blogger like many of my colleagues and other Bhutanese
bloggers. I rarely post any articles on my blog and more rarely I interact with
my readers. Because of my current work schedule my blogging situation has
become more dire and infrequent. Of course I have interest to write but somehow
I am not able to write as often as I would like to. </span><span style="line-height: 115%;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="line-height: 115%;">As
you can see, I have so many excuses why I am not able to do that, that, that,
etc. But I am sure I will get hang of my new life schedule very soon and
continue my reading and writing habit. I hope you will be around to read my
next article. And thank you for being with me for all this time. </span><span style="line-height: 115%;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

you are reading this article, you might find more grammatical errors or typos
than usual because I have just written this article on my lunch time in less
than 6 minutes. Also, I didn’t edit or re-read to make necessary corrections,
so please bear with all the mistakes if you had encountered. </span><span style="line-height: 115%;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">A
friend of mine asked me the other day, “Do you miss your college life?” I was
immediately taken aback when I heard it because I didn’t know how to respond to
this. I simply said, “I do sometimes,” with pretend smile on my face. He, of
course, had a very long answer when I asked him same question. After I
reached my apartment, I started to wonder if I really miss my college life.
I never thought about it since I graduated from the college; it has almost been
a year since I graduated – it’s exactly 359 days.</span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I
have never wondered or thought about my college life because I was always
occupied with office works and other non-office works. To put it mildly, I
never got time to think about it at all. Yes, many of my friends have accused
me of being busy all the time, and forgetful of all the fun things we did
together. I guess they are right. I must be busy and forgetful as all my
friends agree on this matter unanimously. Guilty as charged. <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">But
do I really miss my college life? Ummm…<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Let’s
start with my college roommates. <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Yes, I
do miss my roommates when I return from work and reach my empty apartment –
because I live on my own and there is no one to have fun with. Both my
roommates are quite far away from here (Thimphu), but one of my roommates occasionally
makes a visit here and we get to meet and talk a lot. My other roommate,
who is in Bangkok, is always busy with his office works and we only get to Skype
when he is free. <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Ugyen
who is in Bangkok has a Computer Science degree just like me, and he has also
acted in couple of Bhutanese movies before. He is a very interesting guy; the
way he looks, the way he dresses, the way he acts, the way he speaks…
everything about him is unusual and worth observing. He makes every situation
funny and interesting when he is in the class or in dormitory. <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

other friend Rada, who is currently in Wangdue, has an Architectural degree, and
he is a big, big, big… probably biggest fan of Bollywood. He has all the info
about every celebrity in Bollywood. He keeps updates on all the gossips and
rumors surrounding every actor and actress. When he is done with that, he
watches and reads all the Indian news and channels. He is an ideal guy if you
want to know anything about India. <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

two of these guys in the room, you can imagine how crazy it gets. <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

instance… <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">We
had a huge computer in our room with two equally large speakers, and on
weekends my two roommates would blast with Indian and Bhutanese music. We would
regularly get noise complaints from other students but we used to ignore it and
continue our fun. Eventually they would lose hope and go to some quite place

<span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">My
two roommates would start dancing and force me to join them. If I ignored their
request, I would be poured with cold water from a huge blue bucket we kept in
our bathroom. Yes, I did get poured with iced cold water once when I refused to
dance with them on Dabangg song. It was actually a mutual agreement among three
of us to always have fun in our room when we were in stress because of massive
projects and assignments. It was our way to cool the pressure down. <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">This
was particularly helpful when we were in last semester of final year. The final
year feels almost like Hell because of senior projects and report writing.
Students have to spend nights programming and designing their own projects –
sometimes we would go without sleep for weeks. But my roommates would always
find a way to have fun even in this kind of situation. They would
immediately lower my stress – and theirs – by blasting music and making fun of
almost everybody in our university. We would laugh so hard and make weird
noises until someone shows up on our door with complaints. It was so much fun
having two of them around. <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">There
are also other moments which I miss like spending my free time reading books in
library, going to field trips, attending lectures and presentations by
international professors and esteemed guests, organizing charity, playing piano
at center stage, participating in international competition in games, and so
on. <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">So
I guess I miss some of the moments I spent in my college days. <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">

I have answered my friend’s question here. <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="line-height: 115%;">Kuensel
published an article titled “only ada rachu for women” on 27</span>th<span style="line-height: 115%;">
April, which explicitly stated: “Women across the country will now have to wear
only ada rachu on all occasions, according to a circular from the home
ministry.”</span><a href="https://www.blogger.com/null" name="OLE_LINK3"></a></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="line-height: 115%;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Since
then, many (both men and women) have expressed their utter dislike and
criticism for this new regulation. <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Here,
I would like to take the opportunity to express my personal opinion on this
subject, but first let’s break down all the points stated in the article – i.e.
to say points made by dzongkhag cultural officers supporting this new
regulation. <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<ol>
<li><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 115%;">Women are mandated to
drape only </span><i style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 115%;">ada rachus</i><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 115%;"> and not patterned </span><i style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 115%;">rachus</i><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 115%;"> for uniformity and
to preserve the tradition.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 115%;">As the eight lucky sign
patterns was entitled only for Royal Family members, women should wear only </span><i style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 115%;">ada
rachu.</i></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 115%;">In the past, common
women wore </span><i style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 115%;">ada rachus</i><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 115%;"> while only Royal Family members wore different
patterned </span><i style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 115%;">rachus</i><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 115%;"> that were more elegant.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 115%;">Many women prefer
different patterned </span><i style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 115%;">rachus </i><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 115%;">as they are not aware of the type of </span><i style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 115%;">rachu
</i><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 115%;">they are entitled.”</span></li>
</ol>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 115%; text-align: justify;">These
are more or less what cultural officers have to say supporting the new
regulation. But I find all these points very unsettling and the whole
regulation very absurd. </span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;">Firstly,
culture and traditions are not static; they change through time. Throughout
human history, we have witnessed drastic changes in our culture from the oldest
human civilization to the modern human civilization of today. In the past, traditions
such as Caste system, Dowry system, </span><span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;">Eunich
(castrated man), Concubinage, Human sacrifice (Mayans and Aztecs), Footbinding,
Sati (widow would throw herself on her husband’s funeral pyre to commit
suicide), etc., were practiced in different parts of the world. Most of these
traditions are now part of history but some of them still exist in rural parts
of many countries. These traditions and rituals were extremely barbaric in
nature and many are shun by present societies. <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">If the argument is to
be based solely on “preserving the tradition,” imagine what the implications
would be on reviving these traditions by different countries. Some traditions
are naturally bad and very conservative in nature. These traditions have ceased
to exist for good reasons. They have been forgotten by mankind for good. Why
would somebody want it back? <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The Law of Nature is:
the old gives way to new changes. And it is exactly what has happened in our
country too. Many old traditions of Bhutan have changed, many have ceased to
exist and some are dwindling on last stage. These have resulted in
misunderstanding between people who have accepted the fact that change is
inevitable and people who persist on resisting changes. <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;">I also believe that the
topic of “<i>ada rachu</i>” </span><span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;">has
direct relationship with this change. <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">A
century ago, Bhutan was geographically isolated from outside world due to
rugged mountains, dense forests, fast flowing rivers and extremely difficult
weather conditions. All these factors made it almost impossible for outsiders
to step foot into our landlocked country, and insiders to go outside. As a result,
a large number of people were unaware of changes happening in outside world. When
other countries were exchanging information, goods, arts, culture,
architecture, and so on, we were basically cutoff from all these, but we found
solace in our own culture, traditions and creative works. We did not depend on
others and continued to practice what we already had. We were proud of what we
could achieve in our own. <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Be
it <i>rachu</i>, <i>gho</i>, <i>kira</i>, or any other items, at the time
everything was very simple. The patterns on <i>rachu</i>, <i>gho</i>, <i>kira</i>,
and traditional boots were all simple. Reasons being: people preferred to make
simple designs because it kept production cost low. In those days, people had
to travel on foot for several days to get the materials, which made it
expensive. Only elite could afford the cost. So the average people confined to
their cheap and simple designs.<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Also
the patterns were not as intricate as it is today. They didn’t have many
choices as you see in today’s markets. Remember, most regions in Bhutan were
literally cutoff from each other? The eastern parts of Bhutan had their own
unique style compared to west, and vice versa. The southern parts of Bhutan had
their own unique style compared to north, and vice versa. How could they have
exchanged these designs and ideas? It was impossible. <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">If
someone were to say that common women wore only <i>ada rachus</i> in the past,
it is highly likely that they had no options but to wear only <i>ada rachus</i>.
If the material’s costs were low and all the regions were connected with each
other, I doubt that women would be wearing only ada rachus. <o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span lang="EN-US" style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">To
break down the points:<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
</div>
<ol>
<li><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 115%; text-indent: -18pt;">Culture
is not static, it changes through time.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 115%; text-indent: -18pt;">The
argument cannot be based solely on “preserving the tradition.”</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 115%; text-indent: -18pt;">The
Law of Nature: the old gives way to new changes.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 115%; text-indent: -18pt;">Be
it </span><i style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 115%; text-indent: -18pt;">rachu</i><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 115%; text-indent: -18pt;">, </span><i style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 115%; text-indent: -18pt;">gho</i><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 115%; text-indent: -18pt;">, </span><i style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 115%; text-indent: -18pt;">kira</i><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 115%; text-indent: -18pt;">, or any other items, at the time
everything was very simple.</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 115%; text-indent: -18pt;">Intricate
patterns demand more work, more money, and more materials – which many did not have.</span></li>
</ol>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 115%; text-align: justify;">Lastly,
I would like to end this post with my favorite saying, which I think is apt for
this subject: </span><b style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 115%; text-align: justify;"><i>“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”</i></b><br />

<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Lately, I have been
reading a lot about </span><i><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Writing</span></i><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">. Considering my poor writing skills, I have
been looking for resources and advices from experts on improving writing. After
reading several articles, I have come to a conclusion that every single advice
boils down to this: “If you want to be a good writer, you need to write every
day.” </span></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">If I tell you that, I
know many will say, “I have already heard about that,” or “I don’t have enough
time,” or “I write everyday but I haven’t seen any changes,” and so on and so
forth. </span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I know for a fact that
you have heard it hundreds of times and it sounds cliché, but it’s a universal
fact – if you want to improve writing, you need to write every day. </span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Let me explain. </span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">If you are like me, you
think a lot about writing a new post for your blog. You want to write more
often. You want to constantly update your blog on regular basis. You want to
share and gain more readers. </span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">But you don’t write a
new post. You don’t write as often as you like. You don’t update your blog on
regular basis. And you don’t gain more readers as a result. </span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></span>
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">WHY? Because you are
only making plans; you are not executing it. You aren’t taking any action. You
are waiting for a right time to write. And that time never comes.</span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">If you really want to
commit to writing, there are 3 simple steps you need to follow.</span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">1. Stop Planning.</span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">2. Start Writing.</span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">3. Repeat. </span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The first step is Stop
Planning. Many people start to plan before they even start writing. It is not entirely
a bad thing but many focuses more on planning rather than writing. They plan on
writing several articles and make several lists, but only to write none. Your
mind is overwhelmed by your massive lists. Your mind can only handle what it is
capable of. So what I would advise you is that you need to stop planning – not
entirely, but have very few lists (max: 3).</span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Second step is Start
Writing. Now that you have planned on writing at least 3 articles, you need to
choose the best one to write first. After choosing the best one the process is simple:
you need to write until you finish writing. And then you can decide on writing
the other two.</span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">If you have understood
the above two steps then step three will be very easy for you. Step three is
Repeat, which means you need to repeat step 1 and 2 for every new article you
choose to write. </span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;"><span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;"></span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 115%;">So the cycle is quite
simple: Stop Planning >></span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 115%;"> Start Writing >></span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 115%;"> Repeat</span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; line-height: 115%;"><br /></span>
<span style="line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I hope this little
advice of mine will help you start writing every day. I would also love to hear
your suggestions and feedbacks, so please leave it under the comment section
below. And if you like this article, please feel free to share. </span></span></div>

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><a href="https://www.blogger.com/null" name="OLE_LINK4"></a><span style="color: #010101; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">When I was little, I did not like reading… at
all. I only read when I was forced to read one. My reading habit only
developed after I reached high school. Many of my friends and teachers in high
school were ardent readers and shared keen interest for books. Wherever I went
I saw people carrying books in their hands – in assembly, in multipurpose hall,
in dining hall, at balcony, at school garden, and, at rare occasions, I would
see a guy carrying a book in his hand coming out from toilet. In his defense, I
think he was making most out of his time by multitasking two businesses at a
time. And I respect that.</span><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;"></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 12.1pt; text-align: justify;">
<a href="https://www.blogger.com/null" name="OLE_LINK3"><span style="color: #010101; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><span style="font-family: inherit;"></span><span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;"></span><br /></span></span></a></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 12.1pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="color: #010101; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">The whole setting was different. Everything was big, beautiful
and… old: students, teachers, buildings and books. The only new thing here was
‘us’ – new students from lower secondary schools. We were left spellbound by the
whole experience around us, and the environment we were in. Eventually it did
fade away – the spell – as we also became part of the school, like many
students before us. One thing that is still fresh in my memories is The
Library. It was double, maybe triple, the size of my previous school’s library.
And the books… the books were plenty and several in volumes. I just admired the
magnificent size of it. (I too have started to collect books since then, and I
continue to add new books in my personal library. By count I have 452 different
books. As I reflect, my mom used to complain about the space it took in the
house. To which I would promptly retort: “Don’t worry mom! I’m soon going to
send all these books to your daughter-in-law’s house.”)</span><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;"></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 12.1pt; text-align: justify;">

collection. Let’s get back to where we were. </span><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;"></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 12.1pt; text-align: justify;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="color: #010101; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">Reading is contagious, and when you spend most of your time with
people who read 100+ books in a year, you are bound to become one. My
metamorphosis was followed by borrowing of books from library. </span><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;"></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 12.1pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #010101; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><span style="font-family: inherit;"></span><span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;"></span><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 12.1pt; text-align: justify;">

was burdening the librarian with my weekly demands, but later I found she also
shared same passion for books/reading. With my regular visits and interaction,
we developed a special bond (book-friends, I would say) and shared same
interest. We began to exchange our favorite reading lists with each other. She
would recommend books – mostly fiction – and I would read in my spare time. I
would also recommend her books – mostly nonfiction – and she would read in her
spare time. We also shared our opinion after reading the books. It was a healthy
practice I somehow enjoyed it. And when I graduated my high school, I continued
my practice in college. And then after my college.</span><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;"></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 12.1pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #010101; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><span style="font-family: inherit;"></span><span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;"></span><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 12.1pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="color: #010101; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">Today I am proud to say that I am a Reader – an ardent reader,
if I may. All thanks to my friends, teachers and people who inspired me to read
when I was in high school. The habit continued and today I am reaping its
benefits. If I had to describe my reading experience in few words, it is this:</span><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;"></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 12.1pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #010101; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"></span><span style="font-family: inherit;"></span><span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;"></span><br /></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 12.1pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #010101; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;"><span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">“Reading is probably the most enlightening experience one can
have. It takes us to a myriad of journeys that is only limited to our
imagination. The sadness, the happiness – all kinds of emotions – places,
objects, animals, people… everything is condensed in one little book, which is
mindboggling, but at the same time beautiful. One gets to pick it up from a
shelf and read it, I think it’s a gift in itself. If people don’t read it then
it’s their loss; a terrible loss. They don’t know what they are missing. Maybe
a gift is not meant for everyone, but the deserved few. And I am proud to be
one.”</span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: #010101; font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;">My only wish is that more people come forward and start reading more
books. </span><span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 115%;"> </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 12.1pt; text-align: justify;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-weight: normal;"><span style="color: #010101; line-height: 14.25pt;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">At 9 am this morning, I opened my notebook and
logged into my facebook account. As usual, I scrolled my facebook wall to check
if there are any important news and updates. After reading few headlines, I stumbled
on an article that caught my attention. It was about how we are increasingly
getting too attached to our mobile devices. It was titled ‘We Are Hopelessly
Hooked.’ I spent few minutes reading this article and found it very
interesting, and decided to share it with my friend, who shares same interest.
Before I even shared this article, I found myself reading another interesting
article. Minutes later another article. And another. And again another article.
I kept clicking links after links and reading every single one of them until I
realized that I have not shared my first article to my friend. This has
happened to me several times and I thought it was just normal to be distracted
for few minutes or even hours. At least, I thought, I was reading something
useful and educational. </span></span></span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-weight: normal;"><span style="color: #010101; line-height: 14.25pt;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></span></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-weight: normal;"><span style="color: #010101; line-height: 14.25pt;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">But, it is not okay to be distracted every time you see
an article, and wasting a lot of your time clicking links after links. The
problem is created due to abundance of information on internet. Every single
day publishers, bloggers and people like us create thousands of content and
upload on internet. Thus, content keeps getting bigger and information becomes
abundance. So should we stop consuming information then? Or stop publishing? Of
course not! The content creation will never stop as it is human nature to want
to express their opinion, ideas and knowledge. Internet is a vehicle for them
to transport their knowledge to other people. Content creation will exist as
long as human race exists. So stop consuming information? Nope! That will only
make matter worse. Without information to feed, people will be no different
than animals. What differentiates human from animals is our knowledge, and
curiosity to learn things around us. We are knowledge seekers by nature. We are
always curious to know what we don’t know. And we try new things all the time.
The fire was invented because of curiosity. Buddhism was born because of
Siddhartha’s curiosity to know about sufferings. Christopher Columbus
discovered America because of his curiosity to explore continents. There are
many other great examples in history that proves we are curious and knowledge
seekers by nature. There is no way we can stop consuming information or
creating one. Again, what can we do to stop ourselves from information distraction?
The only way I see is by controlling ourselves from consuming lot of
information. We need to limit ourselves! Of course knowledge is power, but when
there are too many information around us, it is difficult to know which one is
the best. When there are hundred choices to choose from and only one best
option, there is no doubt you will make a wrong decision. The only way to not
get distracted from information abundance is self-control. I repeat
self-control!</span></span></span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></span></span><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;"><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">If you have any suggestions or questions about this post, please leave it in the comment section below. <span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I have never been a big fan of Writing, and
for that reason, I’m always scared of putting words on paper or screen. To make
matter worse, when I read my friend's writings I can’t help but compare it with
my own writing style. Most of their writings, I feel, are creatively written.
Their writings are concise, and easy to READ. Some say, <b><i>‘Easy
reading is damn hard writing’,</i></b> but when I read my friend’s writings, I
feel writing comes easy to them – maybe, a natural gift or talent. Writing is
an effortless task, my friends would say, but never did I understand that
statement. Writing has always been a major challenge to me. It is complicated,
difficult and extremely laborious. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I would type words on screen, try to form
meaningful sentences, and create beautiful paragraphs, but when I re-read
again, I always feel it lacks something; maybe a spontaneity, a uniqueness, or
even, if I may, a Magic – or something more. Because of this void or lacking, I
eventually delete my file and restart the whole procedure from the very
beginning – it goes on for many days. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">So how do I keep writing without giving up?
Maybe – just maybe – the answer lies in my Fear. I fear a lot when it comes to
writing, if I must admit. Fear of disappointment, fear of rejection and fear of
disregard. I care what people will think. I care what people will say. And several
other thoughts cloud my head. But should that stop me from writing? Absolutely
No! I should try to tackle this problem head on. Instead of running away or
hiding, I should face it one-on-one. So what’s my strategy? It’s very simple: Writing.
I have made a promise to myself that I will start writing about anything that
comes to my mind for next 30 days, as an experiment. It’s like a physical
exercise but for the brain. The exercise lets writers to pour their thoughts on
any topic or subject. It helps them to stretch their mind and think as far as
they can, without any boundaries. I don’t know for sure that it will work for
me, but it has worked for many. And I feel there is no harm in giving a try. If
you have same problem you can also try this exercise. I hope it brings positive
result to you. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">So, yeah… for next 30 days I will be writing
about all the crazy stuffs that comes to my mind. There will be no restraint
whatsoever. And I might use improper language (warning!) in my writing – not
all the time though! <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">If you have any suggestions or questions about

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">With ever rising number
of graduates every year, the country is struggling to create more jobs. Today
there are more than <a href="http://www.molhr.gov.bt/blmis/" target="_blank">9,000+ unemployed people in the kingdom</a> (2013), and the number is still expected
to rise by manifold. With such staggering figure, it has already overwhelmed
the Government, and both private and corporate sectors. In the past, the school
enrollment rate was lowest in South Asia, but today it has the highest in the
region. This has led to more students enrolling to schools and then
graduating from colleges. The reasons may be attributed to the free
education policy in the country, which has made education accessible to
children from all backgrounds, and free health care services, which has
contributed to their well-being. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Large pool of job
seekers from all parts of the Dzongkhags are moving from rural to urban areas,
mainly capital city Thimphu, and other major towns: Phuntsholing, Gelephu,
Samdrup Jongkhar, Mongar, etc. in search of jobs. Very few seekers, if they are
lucky, get jobs at government and private companies, but for others they have
to wander for months or even for years looking for jobs. There are also people
who use contacts and other methods of sort to circumvent the system to get good
jobs, and usually they end up with good jobs. The notion of 'Corruption'
is not a new subject. It's a known fact that corruption is practiced in many
companies to hire or recruit new employees. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br />
For those job seekers who end up without jobs usually take on dozens of gigs to
make ends meet. The problem with such 'temporary jobs' is it's not
sustainable. There is no security, no benefits, or consistency. The Government
might overlook and undermine such problems and ignore it completely, but such
actions and ignorance will cause ripple effects everywhere.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">

<b><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">1. Economy <o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Unemployed youths like
many others are a consumer. We buy things all the time. We drive the economic
growth by buying goods and services. If we have large number of unemployed
youths without income, it's really going to hurt our economy - production of
goods and services will fall, investment will decrease, people will stop buying
and start saving, payment on income taxes will decrease, etc. To run the long
term economic growth cycle, we should start paying them by giving jobs.
<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Unemployment is
a major cause of crimes. People will start breaking rules and
regulations and start resorting to all sorts of non-legal activities to make
money. Suicide, murder, and robbery will take a toll in the society, creating
instability in the country. <o:p></o:p></span><br />

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">People feel secure when
they have jobs, and when there are no jobs people feel insecure. Insecurity
also impact people's mentality by becoming more depressed. With no money in the
pocket, they will not be able to go to the doctor and pay for the medication.
Sometimes people also take their own lives when they go through all these
hardships. </span></div>

<i><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><b>Note</b>: Before I write about this given topic, I would
like to say that it is not my intention to make a contrasting opinion to any of
the person or figures - political, commercial or economical, as a matter of
fact. It is purely a personal interest for the topic and the information

Also, if you find incorrect information or any kind of mistakes please leave
your suggestions under the comments section below.</span></i></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">With increasing number
of cities and countries adopting new Electric Vehicles (EVs) and hybrids,
it is not uncommon for Bhutan to follow the same path. The conventional gasoline
vehicles emit tonnes of pollution into the atmosphere, increasing
global warming, and causing damage to the environment far more than we can
imagine. So it makes perfect sense to adopt electric vehicles in our country as
it is clean and efficient. EVs have minimum impact to both people and
environment. However, electric vehicles have some major technological
drawbacks: <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">1. Charging points<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">It is not an easy task
to install electric car charging stations in many parts of the rural areas in
Bhutan. Many of the developed countries still suffer from major lack of enough
charging stations, which makes difficult for consumers to adopt EVs. Bhutan
will need huge capital and resources, if it plans to make EVs viable. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">2. Time spent in
charging<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">This is another big
hurdle for both consumers and manufacturers as EVs take longer time to
charge their batteries than its counterpart. Most EVs on the market will need to
be plugged in overnight to fully charge. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Let's take a few
real-world examples:<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; text-indent: -0.25in;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; text-indent: -0.25in;">The </span><a href="http://www.nissanusa.com/leaf-electric-car/index" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; text-indent: -0.25in;"><span style="color: blue;">Nissan LEAF</span></a><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; text-indent: -0.25in;"> uses lithium-ion batteries, just like your
laptop and your cell phone, but it uses a lot more of them. It can charge
overnight (8 hours) at a 220/240-volt Nissan charging dock that's installed in
your garage. It can also charge at a 110/120-volt outlet, the kind you plug
your laptop and cell phone into, but it'll take far, far longer.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; text-indent: -0.25in;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; text-indent: -0.25in;">The sexy </span><a href="http://www.teslamotors.com/roadster" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; text-indent: -0.25in;"><span style="color: blue;">Tesla Roadster</span></a><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; text-indent: -0.25in;"> uses lithium-ion batteries, too, but the 240-volt Tesla High
Power Wall Connector, as they call it, can charge that baby in a mere 3.5
hours. But before you open your wallet, you should know that this is also one
of the most expensive EVs on the road.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; text-indent: -0.25in;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; text-indent: -0.25in;">A little neighborhood
electric vehicle (NEV), like the cars from </span><a href="http://www.gemcar.com/models/" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; text-indent: -0.25in;"><span style="color: blue;">GEM</span></a><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; text-indent: -0.25in;"> (Global Electric Motorcars), uses </span><a href="http://auto.howstuffworks.com/question219.htm" style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; text-indent: -0.25in;"><span style="color: blue;">lead-acid batteries</span></a><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; text-indent: -0.25in;"> . This technology is older, proven to be
reliable and charges in about 6 to 8 hours at a standard 110-volt outlet. So
what's the tradeoff? A maximum speed of just 25 miles per hour (40.2 kilometers
per hour). </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Also, consumers fear
that their vehicles might get stranded if they run out of battery. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">3. Environmental impact<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">One recent study by
scientists in EV-friendly Norway has found that in some circumstances electric
cars can have a greater impact on global warming than conventional
cars. One of the findings is that the energy intensive manufacturing of
EVs means that some cars make almost double the impact on global warming as
conventional cars. This is mostly because of the raw materials and energy
needed to build the lithium-ion batteries.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: 13.15pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">If Bhutan wants to adopt EVs, it should consider
all the factors stated above and beyond. I cannot really say for certain when
Bhutanese will be ready to adopt EVs on large scale, but I sincerely hope it
changes. Personally, I think it is a wonderful initiative taken by the current
government and laying foundation for green vehicles may be a small step but in
long run it may turn out to be fruitful. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Like my father would
say: <i><b>"It is never too early or too late to start anything."</b></i><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">We all know how
important technical knowledge and intelligence are, but we always overlook the
importance of our habits or character. If you have traveled in the East, you
will find that most countries in that region value personality and character
of a person more than intelligence. They appreciate kids respecting their
parents, elders and strangers. They like raising their children with
values instilled in them. They like to teach their children what they were
taught by their parents, and they want their children to do the same.
However, they also value the importance of technical knowledge gained from
schools or universities, but they put more emphasis on social skills. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><b><i>"85% of your
financial success is due to your personality and ability to communicate,
negotiate, and lead. Shockingly, only 15% is due to technical knowledge."</i> -- Carnegie Institute of Technology. <o:p></o:p></b></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Following are the habits
you must strive for:<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">1. Respect <o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">It is very common
especially in my country, Bhutan, where younger people respect their parents,
elders, teachers and strangers. From very young age kids are taught at home by
their parents and family to respect everyone, and in schools teachers strictly
teach students the importance of 'Respecting Others'. Value education has
become an important part of school curriculum. We call it Driglam Namzha. It
is essential to learn all these because one must use Driglam Namzha very
often in Dzongs, Offices, Schools, Home - basically everywhere and every day.
<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">2. Hard Work<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">So many articles and
books are written on this topic, so I'm probably going to restate those lines here. If
you look at all the billionaires, great scientists, leaders, artists and
writers, you will find that most of them have achieved their current status
because of sheer hard work. They have put many hours focusing and trying repeatedly
to achieve their goals. They faced many challenges in their lives but it didn't
stop them. And it shouldn't stop you either. If they can do it we can too.
Right? <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">3. Time Management<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Time management is one
of the most important skills one must have or strive for. It is one commodity
you cannot buy - even if you decide to pay millions of dollars. Once you waste
your time it cannot be earned back. So it is crucial that
you manage your time well. You only get 24 hours in a day and it all depends on
how you use that. Manage your time well! <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">4. Listen Carefully<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I have seen so many
speakers who have misheard the questions raised by the audience and the speaker
simply assumes their perspective and answers his/her opinion. What they don't
realize is that communication is a two way process. Listening is as much
important as answering the questions. Listening carefully can lead someone to
right direction by answering the question correctly. Always listen carefully
and never pretend what you have heard is the exact same. And don't be afraid to
ask again. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<b><span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">5. Honesty<o:p></o:p></span></b></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">In a room full of
students a teacher asked: "How many of you like liars?" None raised
hands. Every single one of the students expressed their dislike for liars.
Well, just like this story, I believe, everybody hate liars. They blame their
wrongdoings to others. They cheat their friends. They cause misunderstandings.
And they simply cannot stand honesty. If you are one of those who lie
constantly to others, then it is high time you change that. If you have friends
who lies to you very often, then you must get rid of them - just like you get
rid of cancer cells. What happens when you don't get rid of cancer cells? It
multiplies. And then it kills the host eventually. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">I hope you practice all
these habits every day, and observe the changes it brings to you and the people
around you.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Good Luck and practice
hard! <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Throughout history, mankind has been in a quest for elixir, a
magical potion that would prolong life indefinitely, for thousands of years. Be
it in a story of a brave hero's journey in a strange world of magic and powers
to save his beloved, or today's world where scientists are working day and
night to break the human code and solve ageing, and get people live longer. <o:p></o:p></span><br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">According to scientific evidences, human originated from apelike
ancestors and evolved over a period of approximately 6,000,000 years ago. But
they didn't have basic human traits such as ability to walk on two legs, make
and use tools around them, language, etc. It took another two million years to
develop several of these traits. It was a mechanism to survive from wild
animals and harsh environment. Many believe that advanced human traits,
including complex symbolic expression, elaborate cultural diversity, and art,
emerged mainly during the past 100,000 years. Throughout the evolution, all
humans have been succumbed to death at certain point, but their life expectancy
increased over the years. Today people can live longer than before (the longest
known lifespan was 122 years) because of the advances in medicine and quality
of living. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">The past years, many companies have emerged, all aiming to <b>'solve
ageing.'</b> In September 2013 Google announced the creation of Calico. The
company is dedicated to develop age-defying drugs and enable people to lead
longer and healthier lives. A new company called Human Longevity Inc., also
joined the race in March 2014. The company aims to collect one million human
genome sequences by 2020 and help facilitate other companies to use the data to
understand what makes for a longer and healthier life. Billions of dollars are
poured to fund this research but no one knows for sure if we will be able to
defeat aging. Many scientists are also of the opinion that it is impossible to develop
such a drug that would extend our life. Scientists have already succeeded in
extending lifespan in mice by 50%. It is only a matter of time that we will
soon solve the mystery of life itself. <span style="font-size: 12pt;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></div>

<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">In Bhutan, it is not uncommon to see ugly sight
of garbage dumped on the roadside, solid waste thrown away at river banks, and
landfills amassed with huge amount of rubbish. It is becoming more and more
difficult for municipalities to manage solid waste in an efficient manner as
urbanization and population has both increased.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Thirty years ago, it was not a big issue as
Bhutan had no more than 600,000 people and more than half of the population
lived in rural areas. Bhutanese imported few goods from the neighboring
countries, mainly India. They produced almost everything in their own country,
such as: milk, cheese, butter, rice, meat, wool, cotton, etc. But in recent
years, Bhutanese's consumption pattern has changed and people started to import
a large number of goods, spending billions of Ngultrum. Because of this
continuous trend, waste generation and disposal has become a major issue in
Bhutan.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;"> </span><br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">Part of the reason contributing to waste
management problem is lack of civic responsibilities, inefficient legal
arrangements and strategic planning, and insufficient resources.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">In Bhutan, we have two systems in place: one for
landfill and another where the materials are left to decompose naturally,
usually few meters away from the house. We know that both these systems are not
environmentally friendly and usually they lead to other problems; when
landfills are no longer able to take in more garbage they are usually relocated
to other places causing huge environmental impact. If it continues,
deforestation and non-biodegradable toxic substances can complicate our lives.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif;">All these problems can be addressed if we start
working together and sharing ideas with one another. As individual, we need to
understand that we generate quite a lot of waste and we need to change our
habits of consumption and day by day practices. As the scale of this problem is
really huge, big organizations, firms, companies, etc., can come up with
projects like Waste to Energy (WtE) plants and recycling sectors in every
district. Further to this, we need to look for the most sustainable solution to
face this challenge.</span></div>
